Conference and presentations
High level conference "Research Perspectives on the Health Impacts of Climate Change"
Feeding a research agenda on climate change and health’.
In person- 19-20 February 2024, Brussels (see here)
I presented the experiences of researchers working with Indigenous communities in the Global South on climate change and health. I spoke about the importance of involving local researchers to understand the on-the-ground impacts of climate change and to consider the challenges that Indigenous researchers face when competing for grants. These challenges include issues with the English language and understanding theoretical frameworks that usually do not incorporate Indigenous values such as holistic vision, reciprocity, and complementarity. I also highlighted the importance of using research results to provide direct benefits to the communities where the science is implemented.

Food Systems, Food Security, and the Underlying Health of a Population: The undeniable linkages between crop productivity, nutrition, and human health and wellbeing
Virtual 18-20 June 2024, Baki, Azerbaijan (see here)
I discussed the importance of viewing Indigenous food systems as part of climate change adaptation strategies to strengthen health systems. I spoke about how hunting, farming, and gathering food are key practices for Indigenous communities in many parts of the world, from the Peruvian Amazon to India. I advocate for the participation of people in the Global North in efforts to adapt to and mitigate climate change, as its consequences are also being felt by us in the Global South.
